As a beginning bikini model and fitness competitor one of the first competitions I heard about was Joe Weider’s Olympia Weekend. The legendary Olympia has been held annually since 1965. This year the event took place in Las Vegas Nevada. Highlights of the weekend were IFBB professional competitions model searches and the Utimate Athlete Contest just to name a few. As I train daily with goals to become an International Federation of Bodybuilding
(IFBB), attending my first Olympia was an experience I will never forget. To be surrounded by other fitness enthusiasts and athletes makes me even more motivated and determined to be the best I can be the next time I step on stage.
Fitness Competitor's Confidence Inspires Dream
In December, 2010, I saw an article with an image of the top 6 competitors in the IFBB Bikini division at the Olympia. It was this image that made me want to start competing in the National Physique Committee (NPC). The women in the image were fit, strong and sexy. Their confidence jumped right off of the page. From that moment on, I have submerged myself into the bodybuilding culture. Meal plans, bikinis, training and posing practice have become part of my lifestyle and I would not have it any other way!
I have attended several bodybuilding events and conferences representing Celsius but, when I got the news from Celsius that I would be representing the company at the 2012 Olympia, I felt like a kid on Christmas morning. This was something I only dreamed about. The Olympia fitness weekend was special to me because it was my first time in Las Vegas as well as my first Olympia and I knew I would get to meet some of the gorgeous competitors who had inspired me less than two years ago. They helped to change my outlook on fitness and life in general. After months of preparation and organization for the Expo, the Olympia weekend was finally here!
Joe Weider’s Olympia Weekend Glimpses Celsius Fresh New Look
On Thursday, I spent most of the day traveling to Las Vegas and setting up the Celsius booth space. Celsius had a new backdrop for the booth that displayed images of the brand’s new look. The new Celsius packaging design has an all white background with a splash of color that corresponds with the drink flavor and callouts for key benefits – burn more calories and lasting energy . It was exciting to be a part of the unveiling of the Celsius’ new look to the public.
This year, Joe Weider’s Olympia Weekend hosted their largest Expo to date. With more fitness vendors and athletes than previous years, the 2012 Olympia was a great success. Celsius along with hundreds of other vendors exhibited at the Expo on Friday and Saturday, September 28-29. On both days, VIPs were let in to the Expo half an hour early to walk around, collect product samples, and meet some of their favorite athletes. Team Celsius members, Chris Riccio and Ben Franczuszki, were also there with me to help represent Celsius at the Expo.
I had the wonderful opportunity of representing Celsius at the Vitamin Shoppe and Lone Star booths. As I looked around, I realized I was signing autographs next to some of the biggest names in the fitness industry. The first women’s physique IFBB pro, Karina Nascimento, was working with me at the Lone Star Distribution booth. Andy Haman from Dymatize and the beautiful IFBB Pro Monica Brant were also next to me while I was at the Vitamin Shoppe booth. It was surreal! These were people that I used to look up to and admire, and now I had the opportunity to work alongside them.
TeamBombshell Wins top Awards
On Friday evening, I had the chance to attend the awards ceremony for the Bikini Olympia at the New Orleans Arena. They also had live judging for the fitness routine rounds and Mr. Olympia bodybuilding. In the Olympia IFBB divisions, competitors must qualify to compete at the Olympia. So to even set foot on the Olympia stage is a great accomplishment. At the end of the night, Brazilian bombshell and my fellow teammate, Nathalia Melo, won the overall in the Bikini Division. The 2011 Bikini Olympia champion, Nicole Nagrani, placed second followed by India Paulino. I am proud to say that the top three women are all part of my competition team, Team Bombshell. While training with Team Bombshell, I have worked very closely with my coach IFBB Pro, Vanessa Campbell. She was also competing at the Olympia and it was the first time I got to see her strut her stuff on stage. One day, I hope to be on the Olympia stage with some of these women. I know that if I keep up the hard work, dedication and discipline I can reach professional status and fulfill this ultimate goal as a fitness competitor..
Las Vegas First Impression…One of A Kind
On Saturday evening, I attended the Lone Star after party at PURE nightclub in Caesar’s Palace. Since it was my first time in Las Vegas, I had to explore the night life! It was also a great time to speak with other people and athletes in the industry in a more relaxed environment. I also saw the water show at the Bellagio, which was beautiful. I have never seen anything like it! I have also never seen so many people dressed up in character costumes walking along the streets – ot even at Disney World! Costumes ranged from Homer Simpson, the Cookie Monster, Buzz Light-year and Dora the Explorer just to name a few. Las Vegas is definitely a one of a kind city. I’m not sure I could live there, but I could definitely visit again. I am sure you all are wondering if I gambled in “Sin City” and the answer is…no! The first thing you see when you got off of the plane there is a row of slot machines but I was not about to go down that path.
Overall, my experience was fantastic. I cannot believe it is over. Next time I want to take time to walk around the expo a little bit more. We were busy the whole time but I always have a blast representingCelsius at fitness events and I am beyond thankful for the opportunity. Even though I do not have another competition for a couple of months,, I am still full of excitement. I am taking the time now to make improvements to my physique so I can rock the stage in 2013. Making changes takes time and I will not become the fitness competitor I dream of being overnight. I cannot wait to begin the 2013 season in the hunt for my pro card while I bring my best package yet! Stay fit!
