No picnic is complete without a good salsa for dipping.
This salsa’s main ingredient is avocados. While avocados are known as a source of natural “healthy fats”, at the same time they are a very calorie dense food. Thanks to Harley Pasternak’s great idea of mixing avocado with yogurt in his “lite avocado dip” recipe, you can eat more of this Guac-salsa without all of the guilt. The yogurt simply acts as a filler ingredient containing far fewer total fat calories than the avocado alone. Long story short, the yogurt allows you to eat more of the guacamole without all the extra calories or fat.

 

 

Ingredients

2 whole ripe avocados
1 diced tomato
½ onion minced
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
½ lemon juice
2 cups of plain lite or fat free yogurt
½ cup finely chopped celery

 

Cooking Instructions

Peel and cut up avocados into a bowl. Mash the avocado with a fork to desired consistency. Add all ingredients into the bowl and mix together well. Cover and place the bowl in the refrigerator. Best served chilled. You can put this on top of a salad, celery sticks, pita or old fashioned tortilla chips.
