FAQ

Does green tea aid in weight loss?

Green tea may aid in weight loss by increasing the metabolic rate, causing those who use it to experience greater calorie burn. A study from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that green tea extract resulted in a significant increase in energy expenditure (metabolic boost). The researchers also found that over a 24 hour period, green tea extract increases the metabolic rate by 4%, this helps intensify the levels of fat oxidation and the rate at which your body burns calories. Green tea may be useful as a glucose regulator -- meaning it slows the rise in blood sugar following a meal. The catechins in green tea may help to stop the movement of glucose into fat cells and may help slow the rise in blood sugar after a meal, preventing high insulin spikes. Additionally, green tea may inhibit fatty acid synthase. Fatty acid synthase is an enzymatic system that is involved in the process of turning carbohydrates into fat. Early animal studies suggest the inhibition of fatty acid synthase may lead to weight loss.
